Future Earth: Pathways Deep Dive Webinar announcement

The next Future Earth Pathways Forum webinar is happening Wednesday March 25th: Reimagining our Practices and Pedagogies: Sustainability Science in Authoritarian Times.

In contexts where academic knowledge and transformative agendas are devalued – or even actively undermined – how can our research and teaching practices remain engaged, critical, and accessible? How can we rethink pedagogical approaches to empower students as actors of change? How can we strengthen alliances among researchers, educators, activists and communities?

This Pathways Deep Dive webinar will provide a space to discuss how sustainability research and education can adapt to and transform within complex political landscapes. Viola Hakkarainen will explore the tensions that sustainability researchers and educators face when engaging with real-world societal change and present the principles to catalyse the inner–outer transformations needed. Wesley Maraire will speak on the language of transformation and how these agenda are co-opted within academic institutions. Finally, Jonas Torrens will present a recent initiative called ‘impossible projects’, a new collaboration with the KIN (Dutch Transformative Climate Research programme) to spotlight research often overlooked by traditional funding.
