Transformations Community Agora
A Space for Collective Sensemaking and Inquiry
The Transformations Community Agora is a space for collective inquiry into the questions, tensions, and emerging possibilities shaping transformative practice.
Across our community, members are working in many different contexts while navigating shared conditions of social, ecological, technological, and institutional change. The Agora offers a place to slow down, notice what is unfolding, and learn from one another’s experience.
Rather than beginning with fixed answers or predetermined outcomes, the Agora makes room for questions that are still forming and practices that are still taking shape.
What Happens in the Agora?
Agora conversations grow from what members are noticing, questioning, and experimenting with in their own work.
We welcome reflections from across the community: a pattern that feels important, a dilemma that is hard to name, a practice that is shifting, or a question that others may also be carrying. Members are invited to reach out directly with ideas, stories, questions, or emerging areas of inquiry.
By learning across boundaries of place, discipline, and practice, the Agora helps cultivate the relationships, understanding, and practical wisdom needed to navigate uncertainty and support transformative change.
Why Agora?
Transformation rarely begins with certainty.
It often begins with noticing something that no longer fits, a familiar practice that no longer works as expected, or a possibility that has not yet found a name. The Agora is a space for these conversations.

Transformations Community Agora
We are facing urgent global challenges—from faltering democratic institutions to unraveling ecological systems—and transformation is already underway. The question is whether we meet it with care, coherence, and courage.
The Agora is the Transformations Community’s response to this challenge—a space for ethical, reflexive, and action-oriented transdisciplinary exchange. It serves as a gathering place for shared inquiry, experimentation, and collaboration across diverse efforts in sustainability transformation.
Join the Embedded in Change Working Group
Part of SocSES’s Thematic Stream “Advancing SES Methods”, the Embedded in Change Working Group is seeking 5-10 collaborators to help co-design the Agora’s structure and curate the different “spaces”, or action-oriented initiatives that participate in the Agora as needed. The group will curate thematic direction, facilitate workshops and dialogues, and support field-building initiatives across contexts and disciplines.
