On 2 July 2026, the Earth System Governance Project will host the online launch of Earth System Law: Governing Planetary Transformations in the Anthropocene, edited by Louis J. Kotzé.

The edited volume brings together contributions from scholars working across environmental law, earth system governance, and sustainability transformations. It explores how legal systems may need to evolve in response to the interconnected challenges of the Anthropocene, including climate breakdown, biodiversity loss, and the destabilization of Earth’s life-support systems.

Rather than focusing only on fragmented or state-centred approaches, the book introduces Earth System Law as an emerging legal paradigm that is Earth-centred, interdisciplinary, and attentive to planetary resilience and justice. The launch event will include an introduction to the volume, contributor presentations, discussant reflections, and an audience Q&A.

The event may be of interest to researchers, students, policymakers, practitioners, and others working at the intersection of law, governance, sustainability, and planetary transformation.
