Navigating Everything, All at Once: Lessons from 15 Years of Transformative Adaptation

Hallie Eakin from Arizona State University recently reached out to the Transformations Community to share a new publication emerging from more than 15 years of work with communities and institutional partners in the Río Piedras Watershed in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Navigating Everything, All at Once asks a difficult practical question: how do people build collaborative governance when they are dealing not with one problem at a time, but with overlapping crises, institutional fragmentation, political conflict, uncertainty, and unequal power?

Hallie and colleagues from a wider transdisciplinary team, working with Alianza por la Cuenca del Río Piedras, bring together experience from the watershed with ideas from transformative governance and knowledge co-production.

Rather than proposing a universal model, they focus on capacities that can be strengthened in practice: making governance more understandable, building collaboration across levels and sectors, sharing power, and increasing communities’ capacity to shape change themselves.

The publication is available in both English and Spanish.
