FAQs
Why are we running the Europe Hub?
Transformations Community recognize that transformative change includes finding new ways to do things that are inclusive and sustainable. We are trying different approaches to open in-person participation to a broader range of people from a wider geographic area, while keeping travel emissions low. By linking to online sessions, we will keep energy and enthusiasm high online, as well as in-person.
How do I join the Europe Hub?
Register to join the Transformations Community 2023 Conference. Make sure you register for both online, and the Europe Hub add-on. If you have a session idea, workshop, or presentation aligned with our guiding theme (design and management of transformations organizations and institutions), make sure you also submit your proposal. More practical information on hotels and reaching the venue will be available in due course.
We hope that many of you joining online only will also join our sessions as a purely online participant. In this case, you only need to register for online participation.
Who is coordinating the Europe Hub?
Your host for the Prague hub is CzechGlobe: The Global Change Research Institute of the Czech Academy of Sciences. CzechGlobe is a leading research institute in the region, specializing in interdisciplinary research on the causes, processes, and impacts of global environmental change. A key focus of this work includes the processes, practices, and policies of transformation required to adapt to, and mitigate, biodiversity loss and climate change.
We are also grateful to our colleagues at the United Nations Information Centre in Prague, who are collaborating with us to provide an additional room for some of the T-practice and T-action workshop sessions. Learn more about the Prague UNIC here.
How do I get to the event?
We would like it if you got to the event by train or bus. Prague is well connected to much of Europe, and one of our aims is to find more sustainable ways to do conferences. To figure out train connections and tickets these websites will help:
The Czech Railways website has good information and ticket sales for journeys to and from neighbouring countries.
For trains starting or transiting Germany: https://www.bahn.de/
The Trainline can help figure out routes and connections and buy tickets.
Once in Prague, the venue (Academy of Sciences) is very easy to reach as public transport is superb. The nearest Metro station is Národní Třída (Line B/yellow), and the nearest tram is Národní Divadlo. A single ticket on public transport (30 minutes, including changing lines) costs 30 CZK. You can buy tickets at metro stations, some tram stops, and inside most newer trams. Or download the mobile app Lítačka to buy tickets, activate tickets, and plan routes. The app works in English.
Will everything take place in person or will you have a virtual event too?
The event is designed to make the most of opportunities for in-person interactions, while also benefiting from, and inputting to, the online programme of the main conference. Sessions held in person will interact with the online relating to the theme “design and management of transformations organisations and institutions.” Online sessions in this theme will be run on the CET time zone. The Prague event is not just a watch-party (in fact, we are trying to avoid this) and this means that some parts of the Prague event will not be online. However, we will create outputs and key messages that feed into the online space, and there will be some hybrid opportunities, as well as some sessions that are online and feed back into the Prague event.
Can I invite colleagues, friends, my spouse or a guest?
Yes. If they want to attend the sessions, make sure they register - we have a limit of 100 participants in Prague. But if they aren’t joining sessions, there is plenty to do in Prague - its also very child friendly. Feel free to ask for suggestions on things to do in and around the city. We can be sure to recommend castles, hikes, canoe adventures, historic tours…
What do I need to know before coming to Prague?
We don’t have the Euro! Our currency is the Czech Koruna, and the exchange rate hovers around 26 CZK to 1 Euro. Most places accept contactless payment, and payment from your mobile app, even for small amounts.
The language is Czech, but most people you encounter in and around Prague will be able to help you in English. Everyone is very friendly.
The Czech Republic is within the Schengen zone.
What is the situation for accommodation?
Accommodation is not included in the price. We want to announce our partnership with Goodwings:
Track and reduce your travel emissions with Goodwings:
To reduce the impact of our Transformations Conference 2023, we’re proud to partner with Goodwings. The European hub strives for sustainability by minimizing long-distance air travel, and by booking with Goodwings, you can contribute to mitigating the event’s climate impact. Goodwings is a B Corp hotel booking platform that simplifies tracking travel emissions, including flights, transfers, hotels, and meals, providing real-time data for climate reporting. You not only track emissions effortlessly but also contribute to climate action. Goodwings uses hotel booking commissions to invest in plant-based jet fuel on your company’s behalf, without extra cost to you. Book your hotel with Goodwings and start reducing today!
Note: While we strive for sustainability, we acknowledge that there is still climate impact associated with the event, and we are actively working to minimize it to the best of our abilities.
