Who We Are

We are a global community of action-oriented researchers and reflective practitioners who support transformations to a sustainable and regenerative future. We do more than theorize change — we are developing new leadership practices, institutional arrangements and participatory techniques to bring desirable transformations to life.

  • Our community consists of experienced academics and professionals who work in a wide variety of organizations, including sustainability-oriented academic programs, government and intergovernmental agencies, research institutes, and agile non-profit organizations, consulting firms, and foundations. We support organizations that innovate to promote social-ecological change.

  • We are closer to a professional association or community of practice than a mass-membership organization: we create high-level exchanges between people who possess expertise and experience.

  • We are situated at the midpoint between a practitioner group and a scientific group. We both develop and are informed by process theories of transformation and seek to refine and extend these ideas by putting them into practice. This requires more than science, so we integrate diverse ways of knowing, interacting, and shaping the world around us, including creative and anticipatory knowledge, practical hard and soft skills, and lived experiential knowledges that help bridge understanding across geographical and cultural divides.

  • While we engage with a wide range of scientists, practitioners and stakeholders, our focus is on innovative structures and processes and the practical knowledge of people who hold space for developing and scaling transformative innovations.
