About the Transformations Community
The Transformations Community (TC) is a global network of over 4,000 researchers, practitioners, educators, and organizers working toward equitable, sustainable, and regenerative futures. We convene conferences, host collaborative projects, and support reflective practice to catalyze systems change through local and global action. We believe that powerful communication and clear design are essential to creating meaningful engagement and collective momentum.
🚀 Why We’re Hiring
TC is at a pivotal moment of growth. We are launching new initiatives, expanding our impact, and refreshing how we tell our story. Our communications and design needs have outgrown our current staff capacity, and we’re looking for a seasoned, creative leader who can:
- Bring clarity, coherence, and polish to how we present ourselves
- Guide and support our communications staff
- Translate our mission into a consistent and inspiring visual and narrative identity
- Take ownership of design and narrative infrastructure across platforms
This is a strategic hire that will improve our internal workflows and external visibility while reducing the burden on our executive director and lead staff.
Your Role
As Communications & Design Lead, you’ll be a strategic partner and creative lead responsible for reshaping how the Transformations Community communicates—visually, narratively, and structurally. You’ll also directly supervise our existing communications team, helping them grow while bringing consistency and quality to our outward-facing work.
📋 Key Responsibilities
Strategic Communications & Brand Identity
- Lead a comprehensive brand refresh grounded in TC’s ethos
- Develop a visual identity system and narrative voice that feels authentic, clear, and energizing
- Produce and guide key assets: PDFs, decks, concept notes, event materials, digital collateral
- Support development of external messaging for funders, partners, and collaborators
Team Leadership & Workflow Management
- Supervise and support our Communications Manager and Technical Manager
- Develop new workflows and handoffs that ensure consistency and reduce rework
- Gradually take the lead on social media strategy and execution
- Ensure web, email, and digital assets align with strategic priorities and brand standards
Web & Digital Experience
- Review and redesign the structure and look/feel of our website
- Develop or oversee basic UX improvements and visual systems across platforms
- Support integration of our tools (e.g., WordPress, GWorkspace, Notion, Slack) into a cohesive digital ecosystem
Cross-Organizational Collaboration
- Work closely with our Executive Director and Project Leads to align communications with project goals and organizational strategy
- Help translate emerging initiatives (including our Community AI project, Coral Reef Futures initiative, and Transdisciplinary Ethics and Practice Community of Practice) into compelling visual and narrative forms
- Play a leadership role in ensuring continuity and clarity across TC communications
🎓You Bring
- A track record of strategic communications and brand development for mission-driven initiatives or complex networks
- A strong portfolio of design work across digital and print (visual systems, reports, decks, templates)
- Excellent writing and editing skills in English, with a knack for clarity, warmth, and accessibility
- Experience managing or mentoring team members in communications or creative roles
- Confidence with web platforms (WordPress or similar), digital tools, and collaborative software
- Fluency in complexity—you can translate systems thinking, social learning, and transdisciplinary work into simple, beautiful outputs
- Comfort working across cultures, time zones, and languages, with sensitivity and care
🌟 Extra Credit If You Have
- Experience designing for community-led organizations, research communities, or transdisciplinary networks
- Background in sustainability, systems change, or transformation practice
- Familiarity with AI tools for communications, curation, or visual production
💼 Work Environment & Benefits
- Flexible hours and remote work from anywhere in a USA or Europe time zone
- Work alongside a passionate and curious global team of changemakers
- Help shape the identity of a fast-growing network making real impact
- $25–$40/hour based on experience and location
- Part-time (16–24 hrs/week), with the possibility for longer-term engagement
