Registration

Yes, you may transfer your registration to a colleague from the same organization, subject to approval. To request a transfer, please notify us as soon as possible, but no later than 24 hours before the event. Additionally, please note that ticket purchases are non-refundable.

For groups larger than 8 people, please reach out to info@transformationscommunity.org and we can explore group options.

You can request changes to your proposal, including adding a co-presenter, by submitting a request through the Submission Change Request Form. If you have any further questions, feel free to reach out to our team.

We recognize that attending an international conference can be costly, and we encourage participants to explore available funding options.

For additional funding ideas, refer to our TC/ESG 2025 Funding Guide, which outlines potential sources of support, including institutional grants, travel stipends, and sponsorship opportunities. While we’re not able to provide individual financial assistance, we hope these resources will help make attendance possible.

The discounted rate of $375 (USD) is available for individuals affiliated with organizations based in countries classified as low or lower-middle-income by the World Bank, or in any other African country except South Africa. This discount is based on the location of your organization, not your nationality or physical residence.

To qualify, you must:

  • Register using an institutional or professional email from an eligible organization, university, or employer based in one of the listed countries.

No, TC/ESG 2025 will be an in-person-only event. However, select sessions may be recorded or summarized for later access.

Event Experience

A transdisciplinary space for scholars, practitioners, and artists to come together in dialogue and practice. Short presentations, long conversations, and practical workshops. We anticipate including field trips and pre or post-conference workshop opportunities. Some conference sessions will be specifically designed to encourage attendance by policymakers and practitioners. A blend of science, arts, and humanities! Our conference program offers a diverse range of activities, including networking sessions, gala dinners, and cultural experiences to help you connect with peers.

In addition to these, TC/ESG 2025 features expert-led pre-conference workshops, interactive panel discussions, and keynote talks from leading thinkers in sustainability transformations. Attendees can participate in hands-on learning sessions, dynamic debates, and the ECR Winter School, designed for Ph.D. candidates and postdoctoral fellows exploring justice and equity in transformations.

Yes, selected sessions will be recorded and available after the event for registered participants.

General Information

The TC/ESG 2025 conference and pre-conference workshops will be held in Johannesburg, South Africa, from August 11–21, 2025, at the Protea Hotel Wanderers, the official conference hotel. Field trips will take place in both Johannesburg and the Kruger National Park area. The ECR Winter School (August 11–15) will be held in Skukuza.

The conference is open to all – scholars and practitioners are equally welcome. There are no eligibility restrictions.

Yes! The Transformations Community and Earth System Governance Project offer several publication opportunities for conference attendees. These pathways enable you to share your research and practice insights in respected academic and practitioner journals, extending the impact of your work beyond the conference. Travel & Accommodation

Accommodation details, including recommended hotels and booking options, are available on the conference accommodations page. The main TC/ESG 2025 Conference hotel will be the Protea Hotel Wanderers. We recommend booking early to secure your stay nearby.

Yes, Johannesburg welcomes thousands of international visitors each year. The TC/ESG 2025 conference is held in Illovo, a secure and well-protected suburb. For off-site trips, we arrange group transport and implement extra security measures to ensure a smooth and safe experience. As with any major city, we recommend staying vigilant and using trusted transport options.

There are no mandatory vaccinations required for entry into South Africa. However, the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommend routine travel vaccinations, including hepatitis A and B, typhoid, and tetanus. If you are traveling from a yellow fever risk country, you must provide proof of yellow fever vaccination upon arrival. For those planning to visit malaria-prone areas such as Kruger National Park, consult your healthcare provider about malaria prevention, including medication and mosquito precautions.
