About Ioan
Ioan Fazey is Professor of the Social Dimensions of Environment and Change and Director of Strategy for the Department of Environment and Geography at the University of York, UK. His research, teaching, and facilitation focus on helping individuals, businesses, organisations, and society develop an understanding of, and capacity for, stewarding transformations to regenerative futures. Ioan has over 80 research publications in resilience, transformation, change, and sustainability and how our knowledge systems – universities and research institutes – will need to transform to support wider societal change. Ioan is also an experienced shamanic practitioner and trainer, helping people work with 'inner’ transformations needed for 'outer' transformations. This includes the founder of ShamanicHealing.org.uk, where he leads training programs to help individuals and groups shift their sense of purpose and identity and reconnect with the regenerative power of nature to better align with a rapidly changing world.

Among many academic aspects of his work, Professor Fazey has been developing and leading training programs in shamanic practice. These ancient practices help people learn how to engage with transpersonal ‘non-ordinary realities’. This includes going beyond normal cognitive Western modes of thought to enhance intuition, connections to wider consciousness and the web of life, and then how this can help reshape the inner aspects of people. Much of this is through facilitating learning about how to reconnect with the regenerative power of the natural world and developing practical ways to go beyond the constraints of our more ‘normal’ ways of thinking. The ultimate goal of this work is to enhance capacities for the development of Earth-based Wisdom in contemporary settings. This includes courses on Transforming from Within directly oriented towards professionals to help them become better change makers and leaders.
