Dr. Deborah O’Connell

Dr. Deborah O'Connell has unique expertise in ‘systems leadership’ – working across the system with a range of stakeholder groups, developing and applying new approaches to disaster risk reduction, vulnerability assessment, resilience building, systems-based strategy development, community engagement & facilitation.

Deborah works across the sciences, arts & humanities to engage hearts as well as minds, with a clear focus on building individual, collective and institutional capability, competencies, commitments, and pathways for transformational change.

Her current work is to:

1) Co-lead the design team with the Australian Government, Department of Defence, Bureau of Meteorology to profile Australia’s systemic vulnerability to climate disaster & write the national guidance to build resilience.

2) Develop and pilot guidelines for resilience, adaptation, and transformation planning (RAPTA) and expand RAPTA to create the Enabling Resilience Investment approach.

 
3) Facilitate a global Women STEMM leadership network called Homeward Bound - a program & network seeking to influence women to make decisions that shape the future plane
