What does it take for sustainability to move from strategies, policies, and research into the institutions, communities, and everyday practices where change actually happens?
That is the question behind Utrecht University’s Pathways to Sustainability Festival 2026, Just Landing: Sustainability in a Fractured World, taking place on 3 November.
Among the contributors, Liesje Mommer will explore biodiversity and the relationships beneath our feet, while environmental psychologist Linda Steg will examine what enables people to support and participate in sustainable change.
Around those contributions is a wider programme spanning food systems, climate, decision-making, art, net zero, deep-sea sustainability, slow science, and international collaboration.
It is a broad programme, but the underlying question feels particularly relevant to transformation practice: what makes ideas capable of taking root in real places and systems?
