Change is changing the way we work.
The practice of transformation is changing not only because the conditions we face are changing, but because our capabilities, choices, relationships, and responsibilities are changing too. By coming together across disciplines, sectors, and communities, we can explore how knowledge becomes practice, how we work together, and how we take responsibility for change.
TC27 is a place to bring your experiences, knowledge, practices, and curiosity into conversation with others. Held at Palacio Euskalduna in Bilbao, Spain—a conference and cultural centre on the site of a former shipyard—this immersive gathering invites you to investigate how your own practice is changing: to examine real situations with others, consider different interpretations, and grapple with the scale and persistence of change.
Practice in Motion invites us to investigate these changes together.

A conference with many ways to participate.
Transformations Community conferences bring established communities and new perspectives into conversation. Programmes draw on accumulated knowledge and experience while making room for questions, practices, and possibilities still taking shape. They reflect emerging directions in research and practice. Whether you arrive with research to present, an experience to share, an unresolved question, or simply curiosity about other ways of thinking and working, there are many ways to participate. No prior affiliation with a project, institution, or network is needed.
Alongside papers, panels, and analytical discussions, TC27 welcomes art, storytelling, embodied practice, dialogue, shared making, and conversations that unfold at their own pace. These different approaches create opportunities to explore how rapid change is reshaping our experiences, identities, responsibilities, and relationships. There is also room for beauty, play, friendship, and the pleasure of following a question without knowing where it might lead.

Connecting place, ecology, and encounter.
Transformations Community’s biennial gatherings bring together people working across the many disciplines, professions, institutions, and communities concerned with sustainability transformations. Each conference creates space for praxis, where reflection and action inform one another, and where experiences and traditions of knowledge can deepen and challenge established approaches. Generative encounters among people, communities, and places draw on local environments, histories, and relationships to open new perspectives on transformation.
October 11–14, 2027: TC27 will bring regional and international communities into conversation in Bilbao, in the Basque Country. The region’s histories of industry, ecological recovery, cultural identity, and cooperative organisation offer perspectives that speak to the questions at the heart of the conference. Here, the Nervión-Ibaizabal estuary connects surrounding mountains and communities to the Atlantic, within a landscape shaped by environmental, economic, and social change.
What might we carry forward from TC27? Insights that challenge our conventions, approaches shaped by different traditions of knowledge, and new relationships that sustain us in the sometimes difficult work of transformation. Some possibilities may emerge through shared experience and productive disagreement, others through encounters we could not have anticipated. TC27 invites us to consider not only what we learn together, but how that learning might change what we do next.
