About the Transformations Conference Series

The Transformations Conference is the flagship global convening of the Transformations Community (TC) — a network of researchers, practitioners, policymakers, and artists working to enable just and regenerative futures.

Since 2013, each conference has been co-created by a local host institution and the TC Secretariat to explore how transformations happen — in ideas, practice, and relationships. The series blends rigorous scholarship with creativity, dialogue, and embodied learning, creating spaces that feel more like learning journeys than conventional academic meetings.

Our Guiding Principles — The Four Ts

Temperance

Acting with humility, balance, and compassion for human and more-than-human worlds.

Transdisciplinarity

Crossing boundaries between disciplines and sectors to co-produce actionable knowledge.

Translocalism

Linking local experience to global learning so that insights flow both ways.

Transformative Learning

Creating participatory, creative, and experiential spaces that deepen collective understanding.

A Living Lineage (2013–2029)

Each host brings its own context and creativity while contributing to the shared learning cycle that links all Transformations conferences across time and place.

Why Host a Transformations Conference?

Hosting a Transformations Conference offers an opportunity to:

  • Showcase your institution’s leadership in sustainability transformations.
  • Co-design innovative formats — research labs, artistic interventions, reflective and wellbeing spaces.
  • Connect your community with an international network of scholars and practitioners.
  • Leave a legacy through partnerships, publications, and long-term collaborations.
  • Access guidance and infrastructure from the TC Secretariat, including communications, hybrid event support, and strategic alignment.

The 2027–2029 Host Selection Cycle

A transparent, two-stage process guides host selection.

Stage 1
Expression of Interest (EOI)

A concise form outlining your vision, alignment with the Four Ts, and institutional readiness.
Expression of Interest round closed on February 28, 2026.
Submissions are now under review.

Stage 2
Full Bid

Shortlisted applicants prepare a detailed proposal covering logistics, governance, sustainability, budget, and legacy plans.

2027 Conference Confirmation Approach

Given the proximity of the 2027 conference date, the Transformations Community anticipates confirming the 2027 host following the Expression of Interest review and structured discussions. For this cycle, a separate competitive full bid stage may not be required prior to host confirmation. Detailed planning and governance alignment will be developed collaboratively following confirmation.

Two tracks in the current cycle:

2027 Conference

Near-term opportunity for institutions ready to begin planning in 2026.
